Star Crossed Pines: A finished quilt featuring Christmas Morning from Carried Away Quilting

Spring is slowly arriving in Minnesota. It’s a joy to hear the robins tweeting in the evergreen outside my window. I am so excited for my grass to green, the perennials to peek out from the soil, and the trees to bud. But we quilters also know that in a month or two, several wonderful Christmas and winter fabric collections will be hitting the stores, and we have to be prepared! As crazy as it sounds, now is the time to plan any quilts you may want to have completed by next Christmas. I hope that my Star Crossed ...

Update: Fat Quarter Lattice Quilt is back from the quilter from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! I haven’t posted on my blog in about a month, and a few of you have noticed. I’ve received some sweet emails and messages, just checking in to see if everything is okay in the Carried Away Quilting sewing room. All is well here, I’ve just been busy behind the scenes.  I do have some fun things to show you in the coming weeks, including a new pattern.

Today I thought I’d share progress on a winter project that I just got back from the machine quilter, my Fat Quarter Lattice quilt. I ...

Star Watch: a Christmas quilt featuring Hearthside Holiday from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! Last October I shared sneak peek photos of another winter quilt I was working on, a Christmas version of my Star Watch pattern featuring fabrics by Deb Strain (Moda). This festive quilt is now complete, and yesterday I took several photos to share with you.

My daughter was home this weekend and commented that she hoped this quilt was for her, as she really loved the striking black and red, the buffalo checks and plaids, and the deer head motif. The traditional holiday elements have a slightly contemporary feeling thanks to that color combination, we decided. Sadly ...

Free tutorial: Fat Quarter Lattice Quilt from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends!  Today I’m happy to share a new tutorial with you, the Fat Quarter Lattice Quilt. In December I shared my original version of the quilt with you, promising that I would follow up with a free tutorial. Armed with some beautiful Holly Taylor prints that I purchased from LouLou’s Fabric Shop, I was able to make a second quilt, testing my instructions and taking photographs along the way. I think you will find this to be a fun and easy project, and one that will look terrific in any fabric collection you choose!

Introducing Winter Trees from Patterns by Jen

I'm so excited to introduce you to the first pattern from Patterns By Jen for 2021!

Winter Trees is the perfect quilt to keep around all winter long.

I love this quilt. When I started sketching it I wanted something simple that brought to mind the quiet in the winter woods.

There's a special silence that takes over the woods when the snow is falling, it's something that can't be described, but I hope this pattern brings it to mind.

It's not just a quilt pattern, it's a bed runner, too.

Add a modern ...

Last month I introduced you to a brand new pattern called Buffalo Check Autumn. Today I'm pleased to share another pattern in my buffalo check inspired series. This one is named Buffalo Check Winter, and it features modern evergreen trees and festive crimson stars.

My sample quilt was made using Moda Bella Solids and a beautiful new collection by Holly Taylor, called Winter White. This collection celebrates traditional colors and cozy Northwoods-themed prints, which will provide a warm and inviting look for our guest room this winter. This is a holiday quilt which can stay on the bed for ...

Applique’ winter quilt pattern for a warm and fun winter from Pieced Brain

Applique’ winter quilt pattern for a warm and fun winter

I blogged about my latest free applique’ winter quilt pattern a few weeks ago and today I want to show you how absolutely gorgeous it can turn out! I am sure you will be inspired to get ready for Christmas right now!

Photographs by Rebsfabstash.com. Used with permission.

Rebecca and Christy from RebsFabStash did an amazing job on this quilt. I originally designed Holiday Retreat with the Moda Fabrics’ Forest Frost Glitter collection. I think it would look great with any colorway and fabric collection you chose but their selection is stunning.

Festive finale Friday from The Academic Quilter

Hello all!  It's 27 degrees here today, and there has been water running down my street from a broken pipe all day. Not my pipe, thank goodness, but a *lot* of water.  They've sent the salt truck down the street twice, but it's going to be treacherous out there in the morning. And the water is still running! My fingers are crossed for the neighbor with the broken lateral pipe, that's for sure.

Today I am showing off my last finish of 2019! It's really the first in my quest to get all of these ...

Holiday themed rag quilt with Sweet Treasures Quilts from Carried Away Quilting

I’ve lost count of how many quilts I’ve made over the years, which is probably a good thing. (I might be embarrassed to know the total number.) But in all my years of sewing and quilting, I had never made a rag quilt . . . until recently that is! Armed with a great pattern and some charming holiday themed flannels, my home is ready for Christmas visitors thanks to this new quilt.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, a rag quilt is made by sewing sandwiched blocks (a block top, a piece of batting, and a ...

Sweetly Scalloped for Christmas from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! I have another Christmas quilt to share with you today. This one is for my mom, and it’s based on my Sweetly Scalloped pattern. If I weren’t concerned about landing on the naughty list, I’d be tempted to keep it for myself. I love how it turned out, but more importantly, I know my mom will love it too.

Mom recently moved into a pretty apartment for the winter months, where she’ll have access to fun activities and lots of friendly people. We had a great time selecting new furniture for her winter ...

A Look Inside BLOCK Magazine: Winter 2019 from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

“Great stories happen to those who can tell them.” -Ira Glass

A Note From Jenny Doan, BLOCK Magazine Winter Issue 2019

After the winter holidays, I like to write down the moments that made me smile. Like the care that went into a handmade gift from a grandchild, the friendly chatter around the family dinner table, and the sweet older lady who talked to me at the post office. Every day there’s something to remind me there is good in this world. These little moments make up each day and when I stop to appreciate them, it changes my perspective, and ultimately, my life.

Our lives are composed of ...

Scrappy Hats QAL Day 10 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Welcome to Day 10

I hope that you are enjoying the snowman blocks so far. There's thirteen snowmen blocks all together. I tried to arrange the directions from easiest to hardest blocks. If you are new to quilting, this is a good skill builder for you. It's also a great stash buster if you are only pulling from your fabric stash to do this quilt. I am using a fat quarter bundle that I have been hoarding for a couple of years now. Today's block is a Flying Geese block, we are going to make 6 ...

Scrappy Hats QAL Day 3 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Welcome to Day 3!

Today we will work on snowman hat brim #2. It's another super easy block and will only take you a few minutes to complete. The pattern does not list what fabrics to use for your hat brims. Just to make it scrappy and have fun with it. This way your quilt will have a personality all of its own. I want to give you space to be creative and have fun mixing up the colors. If you are using a limited number of fat quarters and not pulling out of your stash of fabric... to ...
